So as promised here is a picture of one of the grand projects I’ve been working on. A 1-UP mushroom lamp based on the sprite from the NES Super Mario Bros. As mentally infuriating as it can be blowing a 2D sprite into 3D I thought this one would be easier since Nintendo has already made 3D version of this in various games. I even made a mock-up of this in Minecraft to see how it would look when done.

Sadly, this too was plagued with problems. Who knew reality could pose so many problems? The initial design only allowed light to come from the bottom of the stem but I quickly realized this wouldn’t be very much light so I resolved to open up as much of the undersides as possible. This lead to a problem of the stem and how to attach it to the cap. I altered the initial blue prints again and I’m quite happy with the final product. All in all The lamp 6 months of on and off work and is made from god knows how many pieces of paper all of which are 5cm and use the Sonobe base.
