You say this doesn’t count for anything
And I guess this was my mistake alone
But in the end I hoped this wouldn’t sting
Now I spend my time trying to atone

My foolish lapse in judgement caused you pain
But I was not clouded by malcontent
Or made my choice with something to attain
My decision was of purest intent

Even the best intentions can go wrong
And I truly wanted what was the best
But nothing in this world is here for long
I’ll bury these memories in my breast
